When Mendocino,
California's beautiful Anderson Valley was first settled in the 1830's, planters soon
found the climate perfect for growing apples. They soon became the mainstay of Anderson
Valley's export economy, but peaches, pears, prunes and hops were all grown with greater
or lesser degrees of commercial success during the first half-century of settlement. The
area is now world famous for the production of fine wine.
The apple drying barn that Jody has rendered in oil dates from the late 1800's. |
